Deactivate shipping rules
Would be nice to be able to deactivate shipping rules to see if there is a difference how orders are assigned. At the moment I would have to delete a shipping rule to see the results and then would have to create it again if I wanted it back again.

Hi Chris, Thanks for your suggestion. I'm currently working on Shipping Rules and looking to make some improvements to them and their ease of use. Firstly, as it's most relevant to your request, we're adding the ability to enable/disabled Shipping Rules. Once this goes live all existing Shipping Rules will be enabled (as currently Shipping Rules are implicitly enabled), but from there on you will be able to toggle individual rules between enabled and disabled. If a rule is disabled then it won't be considered when we decide which rule best applies to an order. Secondly, we're aiming to make the process of how the Shipping Rules are applied more transparent. Just as a quick primer on how the Shipping Rules work: When an order comes in we check it against all the criteria in your rules. If a rule fails on any criteria then were discard it. Once we've checked all your rules we'll then have to pick the best fitting rule from those that are left. If there are no rules that match we'll use your Default Shipping Method, if only one rule matches then we'll apply the Shipping Method from that rule, and if more than one rule matches then we'll have to make a decision about which one to use. The way we make that decision is based on how specific that rule is (i.e. how many criteria you've explicitly set rather than leaving as "All"). Whichever rule is most specific is the one we'd use. We'll be adding a column labelled "Specificity" to the Shipping Rules grid, which will give you a quick indication of how specific that rule is, rather than having to count up all the values you've set. Hopefully this should make it a bit more obvious which rules are more specific than others. Another drawback that we're tackling is what happens if 2 or more matching rules are equally specific? In the past we were just making an arbitrary decision since we had no way left to judge which rule was the better fit, and in those cases we'd just choose the oldest Shipping Rule. To help you deal with situations like this we're adding an additional "Priority" field to the rules. You'll be able to set a value from 1-99 to indicate the rule's priority. We'll still look at how specific a rule is first when determining which rule to use, but if we get to the point where we have more than one equally valid rule we'll use the priority to pick your favoured rule. The main bulk of the work I'm undertaking at the moment is on a new tool to allow users to test their Shipping Rules. This will allow you to either enter an Order Number or enter some "dummy" order data, which we'll compare to your rules and provide you with the results. This will show you all the matching rules, along with how they're ranked (according to specificity and priority), and ultimately which rule would apply to that order. We'll also have the option to do a full compare against all your rules, which will show you where every rule matched or failed against that order. You'll have the option to do this testing against enabled rules, disabled rules or both. This will hopefully be useful as it means you can create any new Shipping Rules as disabled and then give them a proper test before actually turning them on. We're hopeful that we'll be able to get these new features onto the site within the next couple of week. Thanks, Nathan.

Hi You will be pleased to hear that this function has been active in StoreFeeder for a few weeks now. You can now select individual shipping rules and then use the "Disable Rules" button to deactivate rules. Once you have done your testing, don't forget to turn rules back on (if you need to) using the "Enable Rules" button Thanks The StoreFeeder Team
